here’s the Scoop
Scoop is a small batch artisanal ice cream company (now 4 locations strong), established in 2014 in Salt Rock, KwaZulu-Natal, which boasts an exciting selection of the creamiest ice creams, sorbets and limited edition flavours you can imagine. Every product (from cup to cone) is made with love, care and where appropriate, the consent of extremely happy cows, to provide you with a reason to smile every time you stop by.
Starting small but with big dreams, Amanda began making ice cream in her kitchen at home, and offered it to friends and family to sample. Her first ever flavours were Gin & Tonic sorbet and 70% Chocolate ice cream, which her daughter Maya sold at a local kids entrepreneurs market when she was 7 years old. She sold out in 15 minutes and SCOOP was born.
We hand make what we believe is the best ice cream on the planet, using locally sourced, top quality ingredients as much as we can. Our milk and cream come from KZN Jersey cows, our vanilla from Madagascar, our chocolate from Belgium and lots of our fruit comes from nearby farms.
Our factory can be found in Ballito (now too large to be run from Amanda’s home). But our ice creams and sorbets are still made by hand, the old fashioned way, on the stove top. Our delicious sugar cones are individually handmade too.
FYI. We received halaal certification from SANHA in 2021.
As a team we believe in keeping our values at the core of our business, so you might overhear us talking about them from time to time.
We hope you love Scoop as much as we do. Your happiness is the one thing we always want to guarantee.

meet Amanda
After working in the UK restaurant industry for over 20 years, Amanda was inspired to bring her local community something fresh, something cool, something special. But Scoop itself all started thanks to an old ice cream churner, her daughters market day and the enthusiastic insistence of friends.
Working from her kitchen at home in KZN, she made small batches of velvety smooth ice creams and delicious sorbets that celebrated the local flavours of KwaZulu-Natal.
As their fame grew, Amanda would pack up her car every Saturday morning and go and sell it by the scoop at local markets. From there it was a small step to The Litchi Orchard where the ice cream was lovingly prepared in front of the very eyes of waiting customers, and after that, The Market at Ballito Lifestyle Centre called, and the rest as they say, is herstory.
meet the ‘happiness’ team
We are driven to create hope for our team and give happiness to our customers.
Our team is at the very heart of our business and we believe strongly in empowerment through employment. Many of our team came to us with no previous work experience, but a great attitude, so every member you meet has started out as scooping staff before working their way up through the business, through commitment and hard work.
